Undoubtedly, the processes of teaching and learning a second language have changed over the years, from a traditional and passive pedagogy to a communicative and active one. Likewise, there are several factors that influence students in this process: personality, motivation, learning styles or strategies that they and teachers use. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to know the strategies for learning vocabulary at the pre-intermediate level of English used by students at the public university, since knowing them can strengthen their learning and provide teachers with the necessary tools to do so.
