This book examines connections between policy contexts, school experiences and everyday activities of Year 4 children growing up in contemporary Singapore. It explores how everyday experiences of students in Singapore shape their orientation towards success. The book offers an in-depth consideration of primary school children's lives inside and outside of school in a novel way. Besides assessing students and educational policies in a school-based context, it also focuses on students' after school activities. This book draws on empirical data in the form of student-completed surveys, classroom ethnographies, student responses to activities, and re-enactments with children of their out-of-school lives, as well as curriculum and policy analysis. It provides a holistic view of Year 4 students' experiences inside and outside of classrooms, and an overview of Year 4 students' perspectives regarding school, enjoyment of activities inside and outside of school, and how the various educational policies shape students' learning process. The book gives readers a better understanding of how Year 4 students succeed at learning necessities based on how they perceive their school experiences, how their school-based activities connect with their everyday lives, and what they consider to be their educational and cultural futures based on the current policies in place in Singapore.
