The purpose of this book is to provide practical information that will help medical and behavioral health professionals give the best possible care to pain patients. Following an introductory overview of chronic pain treatments in the US, the author discusses the predominant pain theories and the tremendous variations in pain expression among cultures and among individuals. He then explores the mind-body aspects of chronic pain and discusses the impact of vocational, social and economic factors.
