Pongamia pinnata (Synonym Millettia pinnata) is a viable source of oil for the mushrooming biofuel industry, source for agro-forestry, urban landscaping, and the bio-amelioration of degraded lands. It also helps in maintaining soil fertility through symbiotic nitrogen-fixation. In promoting the benefits of Pongamia pinnata in agriculture, development of Rhizobial and Arbuscular mycorrhizal inoculants is an added advantage as Pongamia was known for its symbiotic association with microbes.
