The overarching aim of the book is to provide the first comprehensive account of Sweden's feminist foreign policy and the way that it was diffused through digital diplomacy. In contrast to other scholarly studies of digital diplomacy that tend to view the latter as a technological and apolitical device for online diplomatic communication, this book examines the distinct political dynamics of digital diplomacy. The book departs from the position that digital diplomacy is a highly political practice and form of communication and provides a thoroughgoing analysis of the co-constitutive relationship between digital diplomacy and feminist foreign policy, with the empirical focus being placed on Sweden. The book advances a novel theoretical framework, which enables the study of the political properties of digital diplomacy as well as the fluctuation between antagonism and agonism at the intersection of feminist foreign policy and digital diplomacy. In sum, the book generates new theoretical and empirical knowledge of why, how, and in what ways power-political dynamics are produced, maintained, and altered in feminist foreign policy and digital diplomacy. While the focus is on Sweden, the authors argue that their novel approach to the study of the political dynamics of digital diplomacy and feminist foreign policy can be applied to other empirical country cases as well. This is an open access book.
